Glossary: the terms we use, in plain language

Short definitions of the technical terms used across this website. Each links to the page where the topic is explained in full.

Trusted AI
AI whose data sources, model versions, permissions and actions can be verified, traced and audited. Read more
Open Source AI
AI released with the freedom to use, study, modify and share it, including access to the preferred form for modification. Read more
Open-weight model
A model whose trained weights are published for use, but whose licence, training data or modification rights may be more restricted than open source. Read more
Source-available
Code or weights that can be viewed or used under specific conditions, which may limit commercial use or redistribution. Read more
Trusted Data Space
A governed environment where data is shared under recorded provenance, versions, licences and permissions, so parties can collaborate without losing control of their data. Read more
Data provenance
The verifiable record of where data came from, who created it, when, and how it has changed. Read more
AI Agent
Software that uses an AI model to plan and carry out multi-step tasks by calling tools, systems or devices. Read more
Human oversight
Keeping a person able to review, approve or override AI decisions where full autonomy is inappropriate or unsafe. Read more
Physical AI
AI that perceives the real world through sensors, reasons about it and acts through machines such as drones, robots and industrial equipment. Read more
Open Physical Intelligence Layer
DNY’s vendor-neutral connection layer that links trusted AI infrastructure — models, agents, identity and audit — with drones, robots, edge devices and real assets. Read more
Embodied AI
AI that operates through a physical body, such as a robot, so it can perceive, reason and act in its surroundings. Read more
Commercial drone systems
Uncrewed aircraft, sensors and software used for inspection, mapping, sensing and industrial data capture in commercial and government operations. Read more
Edge AI
Running AI inference on or near the device or asset, rather than in a distant cloud, for lower latency, resilience and data control. Read more
Autonomous operations
Multiple devices — drones, robots and industrial systems — coordinated by AI agents under governed workflows with human escalation. Read more
Digital twin
A live digital model of a physical asset, site or process, updated from real-world data and used to monitor, predict and plan. Read more
OPC (Office + AI Agents)
A local business node that combines a workspace, AI agent capabilities and market connections so small teams can deliver like larger organisations. Read more
FDE (Forward Deployed Entrepreneur)
A delivery role that works directly on a real customer problem in the field, taking a solution from proof of concept to deployment. Read more
AI transaction readiness
Architecture and interfaces that prepare for AI agents and machines to request, verify and settle services with each other. Read more
AILH
A proposed large-scale industrial deployment environment in Sydney, used as a physical-economy proof point for trusted, open AI. It is a separate interest from DNY, not owned or controlled by DNY. Read more
